Serotonin Levels & Premature Ejaculation

It has been proven my many clinical trials that low serotonin (5HT) levels in the brain can lead to premature ejaculation. This is why many who suffer from premature ejaculation take antidepressants (SSRI - which increase serotonin levels in the brain) to delay their ejaculation. Do I recommend this method, definitely not? Why? I’m not a big fan of taking medication (the easy way out) to rid premature ejaculation. As a matter of fact, it has also been logged in many case studies that once you stop taking the antidepressants, your premature ejaculation will come back. Instead why don’t we try increasing serotonin levels the natural method.
The natural way consists of a diet that incorporates healthy natural foods that will help to increase your levels of serotonin in your brain. The following foods that contain B-vitamins, Calcium, Magnesium, Tryptophan, Omega 3, Gamma-Linolenic Acid are great for increasing serotonin levels (reference: Wikipedia):
brown rice, chicken, corn, eggs, green leafs, legumes, meat, nuts, peas, sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast, almonds, brewer’s yeast, cruciferous vegetables, fish with bones, sesame seeds, tofu, shrimp, salmon, turkey, soy products, peanuts, fish oil, walnut oil, tuna, flax oil, canola oil, chicken, grape seed oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, black current oil, blue-green algae, borage oil, and evening primrose oil.
Try to avoid caffeine, refined carbohydrates, chocolate, sugar, alcohol, street drugs, diet pills, and tobacco. These do not help increase serotonin levels. As a matter of fact, they decrease serotonin levels.

Serotonin can also be increased by getting a good amount of sunlight. For those who work and play outside a lot, they will have higher levels.
Also, when it comes to antidepressants, they have a side effect in a lot of men. And that is it takes the urge to have sex away! Think about that one for a minute!):
Ice cream and good ol’ breakfast cereal are great foods to eat as well.

It’s almost impossible to get an accurate definition of premature ejaculation: what some couples consider a satisfactory length of intercourse would be very inadequate for others.
At the 2006 Congress of the European Society for Sexual Medicine, an American research paper reported:
* the average lasting time of men with PE was 1.8 minutes.
* ‘normal’ men lasted an average of 7.3 minutes.
But there were males who claimed to have premature ejaculation, yet who could last up to 25 minutes. This clearly shows people have wildly differing ideas about what is normal.
